Split Personality e-workshop

with 2 Comments

I organized a collage project via email for my Pelham Art Center students for late March/ April 2020 because classes were cancelled when people had to self-quarantine due to the corona virus pandemic. My students wanted to keep making collages and work while sequestered at home. The image on the left is my sample collage. Two students – and more to come –  created the other images (below) for the first project, titled Split Personality. I told students to find 2 faces in a fashion magazine like Vogue or Elle or Ebony and combine 2 faces into one face. Notice Marlene made 3 variations for the themed project. As more students complete the project, more collages will be posted.

I was very taken with this old photo of people looking out or sitting on the window sill. It
reminded me of our quarantine and of our need to isolate ourselves. I decided the empty
windows needed faces looking out at the world outside, the world we had to stay
    apart from. Harriet

How interesting to learn that your response to the collage project was about the world inside and the world outside in our new “normal” during the COVID 19 pandemic in NY. Thank you for this beautiful split personality collage.
